Lemon Rainbow Bombs

March 12, 2023 Kylie Tuosto

Lemon Fizzy Bombs: A Fun Science Experiment for Toddlers

Lemon fizzy bombs are a simple and entertaining science experiment that can be done at home with a few household items. Not only is it a fun activity for toddlers to participate in, but it also teaches them about chemical reactions and the properties of different substances.

Supplies:

  • Lemons

  • Baking soda

  • Food coloring

  • White vinegar

  • Small plastic cups or molds

  • Spoon or dropper

  • Triangle tray

  • Rainbow Droppers

Steps:

  1. Cut the lemons in half and squeeze the juice into a small bowl.

  2. Mix in a small amount of food coloring to the lemon juice to create a vibrant color.

  3. In a separate bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. The mixture will start to fizz and expand.

  4. Using a spoon or dropper, add the lemon juice mixture to the baking soda and vinegar mixture.

  5. Quickly pour the mixture into the small plastic cups or molds.

  6. Allow the mixture to set for a few minutes before removing the lemon fizzy bombs from the cups or molds.

As the lemon fizzy bombs are activated, the acid in the lemon juice reacts with the baking soda to create carbon dioxide gas, which causes the mixture to fizz and expand. This reaction is a great way to introduce toddlers to the concept of chemical reactions and how different substances can interact and change.

Additionally, the use of food coloring adds an element of excitement and engagement for toddlers as they can observe the color change in the mixture. Overall, making lemon fizzy bombs is a fun and educational activity for toddlers that allows them to explore and discover the world of science in a hands-on way.
