Positive Parenting: The Power of Routines

As a parent, you want to give your child a sense of autonomy, power, and purpose. One of the best ways to do this is through the use of routines. According to child development expert Dr. Laura Markham, "Routines give children a sense of security and belonging. They know what to expect, and can participate in the family's daily rhythm."

But routines aren't just good for children's emotional well-being; they also play an important role in their cognitive development. According to Dr. Markham, "Routines help children learn how to sequence events and understand time, which are important prerequisites for academic success."

So how can you create effective routines for your child? One of the most important things is to make sure that the routines are visually connected to the child. This is where my Toddler Routines Checklist Notepad and Routines Flashcards come in. They provide a visual representation of the daily routine, which makes it easy for your child to understand and follow.

For example, you can use the notepad to create a daily schedule for your child, with pictures of activities such as "wake up," "eat breakfast," "go to school," etc. You can also use the flashcards to help your child learn specific routines, such as brushing their teeth or getting dressed.

Another key aspect of creating effective routines is to involve your child in the process. According to Dr. Markham, "When children are involved in creating and maintaining routines, they feel a sense of ownership and control over their daily lives."

So take some time to sit down with your child and create a daily routine together. Use my Toddler Routines Checklist Notepad and Routines Flashcards to make the routine visually connected and easy to understand. You'll be amazed at how much more smoothly your days will go, and how much happier and more confident your child will be.

In conclusion, routines play a crucial role in positive parenting by providing children a sense of autonomy, power, and purpose. By visualizing the routines and involving the child in creating them, the routine becomes more effective and easy for the child to follow. My Toddler Routines Checklist Notepad and Routines Flashcards can help parents to create a visual representation of the routine for the child, making it easy for them to understand and follow.
